Nikon DX3 Official launch

Good news for fanatic professional photographers: Nikon has just released a new flagship digital SLR. The DX3 (which surpasses the D3 atop the Nikon lineup) is an incredible 24.5 megapixel camera designed to please the most discerning of professionals and high level hobbyists. The Nikon DX3 has so many features that even the most demanding users will have a hard time finding anything the model lacks.

The camera shoots at 5 fps and features processed file sizes of roughly 138MB. Images can be stored as TIFF, JPEG, or RAW formatted files in 12 or 14 bit compressed or uncompressed formats. The dual CF card slots allows for overflow and backup, and are UDMA compatible for high speed transfer. Like every other Nikon camera, image processing is handled by the company's EXPEED technology. The DX3 supports a vast range of ISO settings which are controllable in increments. The LCD is a 3-inch model with seven levels of brightness and 920,000 dots resolution. Shutter speed is adjustable from 1/8000 of a second to 30 seconds. The battery life on a single charge allows for an impressive 4400 shots. As if this weren't enough, the list just keeps going on and on.

The $7999.95 price tag (for the body only, lenses are extra) will drive off all but the most serious of buyers, but those left over will likely find a camera that is capable of creating some truly breath-taking images. The camera is being shipped to resellers this month, so if you're looking for a truly massive holiday gift, this one is impressive to say the least.

The U.S.S. Oriskany in Pensacola, Florida: It’s a great wreck dive, though a bit deep for sport divers. The flight deck is at 135 feet -- or it was, that is. But after Hurricane Gustav pushed through the Gulf of Mexico, the sunken ship dropped about 10 feet deeper. Now dive operators are worried that the drop to 145 feet will give pause to divers wanting to stay within the 130 foot “safe diving limits.” On the other hand, some believe the wreck will be safer because fewer people will be tempted to drop 15 feet past 130 just to touch the flight deck.
